"The Anointing"

Thoughts From the Word of God:

Scripture tells us that priests and kings were anointed--set apart to be used by God.  In 1 Samuel 16:12 we read about David: "Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his brethren: that day forward..."  David's victories came because he was set apart for the service of God. In Exodus 28:41 Aaron was anointed and consecrated to minister in the priests office and in Exodus 40:15 his sons were anointed "for their anointing shall surely be an everlasting priesthood throughout their generations"

Not only were men/women anointed, but the Old Testament the tabernacle, te furniture and all the utensils used for worship were anointed with holy oil before they could be used.  Exodus 30:22-30 describes a special oil containing fragrances of myrrh, sweet cinnamon, calamus cassia and olive oil.  Oh!  That our worship would be holy and anointed!

The Apostle Paul tells us in 1 Corinthians 3:16 "Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?"  Should we not be symbolically anointed just as the furniture and utensils of the Tabernacle?  The perfumes used in the special oil were myrrh, cinnamon, calamus and cassia. They were then mixed with olive oil.  myrrh was used for burial and speaks of death.  If we want to be anointed by God, we must "die to self"... our goals, our dreams, our talents must be given to God, we must "die to self"... our goals, our dreams, our talents must be given to God for His use.  The second ingredient, cinnamon, is used when we bake.  Its taste and fragrance are pleasant.  It is a sweet tasting spice.  There needs to be a sweetness in our life--the fruit of the spirit should be evident.  The third ingredient used was calamus which grows in miry soil.  To get the smell it had to be beaten--the more it was beaten, the better the fragrance.  We go through difficult times; but hose are the times that God uses to mold us into the image of Jesus.  God uses those circumstances to shape us for the anointing.  The last perfume used is Cassia.  Cassia grows high in the mountains.  If we desire the anointing, we must get on the mountain top with God.  There's no shortcut to the anointing!  Finally, the mixture was mixed with olive oil.  In scripture oil represents the Person of the Holy lSpirit--we see it in types and shadows throughout the Bible.

We need the anointing of God on our life; but it takes "abiding in Him".  1 John 2:27-28 tells us:  But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.  And now, little children  abide in him; that, when he shall appear, we may have confidence, and not be ashamed before him at his coming.
Loving you, Pastor
